A Beginner's Walking Plan: Your First 4 Weeks
Explore a practical, beginner-friendly approach to building your walking routine.
Walking plans
Whether you’re just getting started or want more structure, Mova brings daily walking goals and a clear weekly plan together in one place.

Personalization
Tell Mova about your starting point and what you’re working toward. Your plan is designed around your answers, so you have something clear to follow.
Lose weight, become more active or improve your walking fitness.
How much you walk now, so your first goals feel doable.
Walking days, preferred days and time per walk.
Outdoors, indoors, or both, and whether you have a treadmill.
Things like joint discomfort or balance, so sessions suit you.

The weekly experience
See your planned walks and daily goals together. Choose your next session without having to work out a routine from scratch.
Tap a day to see its walk, how long it is and when you planned it. Recovery days are part of the week, too.
Some walks offer an alternative, such as the same session on a treadmill.
Planned walks and everyday steps count toward the same day.

Week by week
Your plan rolls forward one week at a time. At each weekly review, Mova looks at the walks you actually did and sets up the next week.
When a week went well, the plan takes a small next step. When it didn’t, it holds or eases off, and there are never missed walks to make up. A short “Why this week?” note tells you what changed.

Programs
Programs are fixed walking series you can choose instead of your personal plan, such as Beginner Walking Foundations, Japanese Walking Foundations, Brisk Walking Builder, Treadmill Starter or Indoor Walking Starter.
While a Program runs, its sessions take the place of your plan. Pause or finish it, and your personal plan picks up again.

How to start
In the Mova app: your goal, your starting point, your week and where you walk.
Your daily step goal and the shape of your first weeks, before you decide on a membership.
Choose a membership, create your account and follow today’s planned walk.

From your answers in the app: your goal, how active you are now, how many days and how long you want to walk, when and where you like to walk, and your safety answers. Once you’re walking, each weekly review also looks at the walks you actually did.
Yes. Tell Mova where you like to walk and whether you have a treadmill, and your plan uses outdoor, treadmill or indoor sessions to match. Some planned walks also show an alternative, such as the same walk on a treadmill.
No. Good walking shoes are enough for most plans. A treadmill is only needed for treadmill sessions, and seated sessions need a sturdy chair.
Nothing you have to make up. At the weekly review, Mova sets up the next week from where you are; if the week didn’t go to plan, it holds or eases instead of adding extra.
Yes. Under Plan preferences you can change your walking days, time per walk, where you walk and how quickly you want to progress. Mova then updates the coming days.
