Steps and HealthExplained

Using a watch or fitness tracker

Mova doesn't have a watch app yet. Steps from your watch still count in Mova when the watch shares them with Apple Health or Health Connect.

iPhone and Android, differences notedUpdated 1 min read

Steps from your watch count

Mova reads the daily step total in Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android). When your watch or tracker shares its steps with Health, those steps are part of that total, and Mova counts them. Health combines your phone and your watch so the same steps aren’t counted twice.

  • Apple Watch: shares with Apple Health on your iPhone automatically.
  • Wear OS and other Android watches: they share with Health Connect when the watch’s app on your phone is allowed to write steps to Health Connect. Check that in Health Connect › App permissions.
  • Other trackers (for example Fitbit or Garmin): only if their app writes steps to Apple Health or Health Connect. Mova doesn’t connect to them directly.

What isn’t available yet

  • No Mova app on Apple Watch or Wear OS. You start, follow and finish walks on your phone. Interval cues come from your phone as sounds and vibrations.
  • No direct Fitbit connection.
  • Mova doesn’t read heart rate from your watch.

Recording a walk

Keep your phone with you when you record a walk in Mova: the walk’s time, its GPS route and its own step count come from the phone. Your watch’s steps for the same time still arrive through Health, and Mova makes sure that walk isn’t counted twice.
