Walks and workoutsFix a problem
Distance or route looks wrong
Short or missing distances usually come from location being off or approximate, a weak GPS signal, or a treadmill or indoor workout, which never has GPS distance.
Find your situation
| You see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Route was off for this walk | Location wasn’t allowed, or Record route for outdoor walks is off. | Allow location while using Mova, and check the setting in Units & preferences. |
| Treadmill walks have no route / No distance or pace for this walk | Treadmill and indoor workouts don’t use GPS. | On a treadmill, add the console distance: Treadmill walks. |
| Too short to draw a route | The walk was very short. | Nothing to do. |
| Pace not available, it needs GPS distance | No GPS distance, or less than about 200 m. | Allow precise location for outdoor walks. |
| Approximate location — distance may be less precise | Your phone shares only an approximate location. | Turn on precise location for Mova (steps below). |
| Looking for GPS signal during the walk | Tall buildings, trees or tunnels blocked GPS. | Keep walking: Mova keeps recording, and the distance picks up when GPS is back. Distance isn’t guessed across the gap, so it may come out a little short. |
| Route maps stay on the phone that recorded them | The walk was recorded on another phone. | Look on that phone. |
| Route saved · the map can’t be shown here (Android) | The map can’t be displayed in this version of the app. | Your route is still saved on the phone. |
Turn on precise location
On iPhone
Profile & settings › Privacy & data › Location opens Mova’s page in Settings. Choose While Using the App and turn on Precise Location.
On Android
Profile & settings › Privacy & data › Location opens Mova’s page in your phone’s settings. Choose Allow only while using the app and turn on Use precise location.
Today’s distance is different from my walk
Today shows the distance from Apple Health or Health Connect for the whole day, which may include running or other activities. A walk’s distance comes from GPS during that walk. They’re measured differently, so they rarely match exactly.
Distance milestones didn’t move
Distance milestones and your longest-walk record only count GPS distance from outdoor walks recorded in Mova, not Health distance or treadmill distance. See Milestones and personal bests.
Tips for better GPS
- Start the walk outdoors, and give your phone a moment to find your location.
- Keep your phone with you during the walk, and keep Mova running.
